Occupied Palestine (The Inside Palestine)- Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are expected to begin a series of protest campagin in response to the punitive and repressive measures taken against them by the Israel Prison Service (IPS), the Commission of Detainees and ex-Detainees said.

The Commission said in a statement today that the Prisoners Movement will be taking escalating activities in protest of the recent repression and punitive measures against many of them, following Gilbou’s break in September 6, 2021, when six Palestinian prisoners managed to free themselves from Gilbou prison, a high-security Israeli prison, through a secret tunnel they had reportedly dug beneath the prison.

Four of the six breakers were rearrested by the Israeli occupation on September 11, after five days of large-scale sweep operations throughout occupied Palestine using high-tech systems and the two others were rearrested on September 19, after 13 days of sweep operations.

The Commission said that Israel’s repressive and punitive measures against the prisoners include torture, solitary confinement, interrogations and denying the access of essential services for the prisoners.

Such measures, the commission said, aim to avenge the prisoners as a part of collective punishment, adding that there is an official Israeli green light for the IPS to deal with the prisoners as it sees fit.

In the same context, the Commission called on the international human rights organizations to support Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The protest measures also aimed to support the six hunger-striking prisoners who have started their hunger strike in protest of their administrative detention in Israeli jails without a charge or trial and also to support the Islamic Jihad prisoners.
